FairPrice Opens First 24-hour Hypermarket, To Invest $40m More

NTUC FairPrice has opened its first 24-hour hypermarket, and said it plans to invest another $40m to upgrade and expand its stores. The 68,000 sq ft outlet, located in the Jurong Point mall, will offer 30,000 products.
Chairman Ng Ser Miang said the cooperative would also spend more on its IT systems and customer service training. He noted, “We had planned the expansion and upgrading, so this not an ad hoc thing ... We believe even with the downturn, we are still growing the business. We have to deal with the recession positively.”
The company has opened three outlets this year, with two more expected to open in the second half of the year, and the company said they will create 500 jobs.
