Indian politician accused of raping ex-party worker

A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former MLA, Madhu Chavan was booked on Tuesday on charges of raping a former female party worker for the past two decades, promising to marry her and buy her a flat.
“Chavan was booked was under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 420 (cheating) and 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage) IPC of the Indian Penal Code after the woman filed a complaint,” senior police inspector of the Kalachowky police station, Suresh Jain said, adding that they are investigating the allegation made by the woman.
