Filipinos using Singapore as "jump off point" to get around deployment ban on Syria

MANILA, Philippines - A migrant workers' group on Monday said Filipinos continue to be deployed to strife-torn Syria despite a ban imposed by the government.
"Now, it is putting the Philippine government anti-illegal recruitment drive on test amid continued deployment of OFWs to Syria,"John Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator, said.
He said OFWs are using countries such as UAE, Qatar and even Singapore as their jump off points to Syria.
Monterona added that OFWs are also sneaking into countries where there are an existing deployment ban such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan." Full story
