Dubai—The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the GCC and Singapore is expected to take effect later this year after its ratification by all members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, George Yeo, Singapore’s foreign minister, said during a short visit to Dubai this week.Yeo said he hoped that the GCC-Singapore FTA would be followed by another agreement embracing the GCC and the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). “I certainly hope so,” Yeo replied when asked if he believes the FTA will be ratified by all the states of the GCC before the third quarter of the current year.
