ESPN’s shock move to SingTel signals all was not well in its relationship with once-partner StarHub.
The announcement last week that ESPN Star Sports (ESS) had jumped ship to SingTel came almost as an afterthought, overshadowed as it was by news that the telco had won the broadcast rights to the English Premier League (EPL) in Singapore.
Yet it would be naive to underestimate ESS’ role in SingTel’s unlikely transformation from pay-TV upstart to Singapore’s premier sports provider.
